7/8M:
We kicked off Book Report #2 today, which will be a Graphic Novel Book Talk. Each student was assigned a short graphic novel and given the details of the assignment.
Presentations will take place next week and will be brief (60–90 seconds). Students are expected to:
- Introduce the book
- Identify the story’s nation of origin
- Share the lesson or moral taught in the story
6/7M, 7M & 8P:
These classes are continuing to work through Book Report #1, which focuses on picture books. If students mention needing to read a picture book, they’re telling the truth! Each student will need to read six picture books by the time the assignment is complete.
All Classes:
Students are also actively working on Newsela assignments during class. They are expected to stay engaged and on task at all times—even when I am working one-on-one with other students, as I’m currently focused on completing individual reading placements.
Please also remember that students are expected to read at home each night and to record the start and finish dates of each book in their Reading Duo-Tang.

NEWSELA Update
Today, students watched the video “When to Capitalize Letters” as a review. This is a skill they have already been taught and are expected to apply in their writing.
They also read the article “English Spelling is Confusing, but a Language Group Says it Can Fix That” and began a related prompt activity in their Word Work duo-tangs.
If you’d like to explore what we’re working on in more detail, here are the class codes for accessing Newsela from home:
